3.8.2 Well data

MigriX allows importing of well data to the Wells folder in the Project Workspace (Wells/Group/Import File) and plot the data as lines or points in 3D space or mapped onto layers or gridmaps. Various data formats are supported including LAS well logs and CSV tabular text files. MigriX also allows for extraction of data directly from the geomodel through the use of Wells/Group/Import Table.

Data files are imported by <RMB> clicking on the Wells folder (or a subfolder) and selecting either the Import File... or the Import File to new group.. option. Options for deleting, copying and renaming the folders are also available from the <RMB> menu. The loaded well data are made permanent between project sessions by selecting the File->Save cultural data option.

Note that MigriX only stores references to the original input files and will reload data from these files each time the project is opened. If the input file is moved or deleted, it will therefore not be accessible. Entries with broken links will show up with a red text colour in the Project Workspace.

The Import Table... options allow for loading of various types of model table (points) data. The available data types are listed in Table 3.9. The db group options will load the data from the corresponding files if they exist. The structure group options will extract the corresponding data from the loaded Geomodel in memory. The Observations options will load the data from the corresponding Input/Observations files while the Migration option will extract simulation results when one or more simulation timestep has been completed.

The settings for how the wells should be displayed in the 2D and 3D views are available from the Well properties panel. A variety of point draw styles and primitives are available, including spheres, discs, cubes and spikes. The size of the points can be changed in the Point geometry scale field. If the data points are sparse (e.g. vitrinite or pressure measurements), the well path connecting the points can be shown by checking the Show vertical line option. The line colour and width may then also be specified. More information on the different well data options can be found in the Wells description.
