3.6 Faults

Faults are incorporated in the geometrical description of MigriX when Layer geometries are created. The faults are represented as irregular mesh elements which accurately follows the mapped fault planes. A description on how to to prepare the fault geometries that are used as input is given in the Fault geometries chapter. In some cases, the mapped fault traces needs to edited before the geometries can be created. This editing process can be carried out within MigriX using its built-in fault editing functionality, or it can be done with the assistance of external mapping software.

After the fault geometries have been created, they need to be assigned sealing properties in order to have an effect on the modelled migration pathways and accumulations. Different fault sealing methods are available. An overview of these models are given the Fault seal chapter. A summary of all the input parameters related to fault sealing is provided in Input/Fault Hydraulic properties.
